Healthy Care Pregnancy Program: From Pilot to Practice

May 12, 2022 10am - 12:30pm PT | virtual

Join us as we present the Healthy Care Pregnancy Program from its development as a pilot to its program implementation into practice throughout communities in BC.

The Healthy Care Pregnancy Program pilot aims to better support pregnant, postpartum and newly parenting people who use or have used substances in BC and utilizes formal connections between 10 acute care facilities and 10 BCAPOP program members.

Program Objectives:

  • Provide inreach support in acute care and community settings to pregnant, postpartum and newly parenting people who use or may have used substances (up to 7 months postpartum)
  • Focus on participants experiencing risks to their health and well-being (e.g., inadequate housing, food insecurity, lack of prenatal care, poverty, gender-based violence, systematic racism, isolation)
  • Meet with participants throughout their pregnancy, walking alongside in their journey and supporting their access to basic needs, supporting transitions in and out of acute care and bed-based programs, and advocating for parent-baby togetherness.

In this session, you will learn from a panel of presenters that will discuss the program's development, implementation, organizational structure, services offered, practical approaches and program outcomes.

**Who should attend? Pregnancy outreach workers, nurses, physicians, child welfare workers, family support workers, social workers, health/social service students, outreach workers, bed-based housing workers, transitional housing workers, midwives, doulas, child birth educators, peer support workers and anyone else who supports pregnant individuals.
