Course Description

This three-hour interactive online workshop provides pregnancy outreach workers with basic information to ensure that they can support perinatal people on their chest/breastfeeding journey with evidence-based information in a community setting.  The facilitator, Hayley Bentley, RN, will provide an overview of best-practice guidelines, chest/breastfeeding basics, common early lactation and feeding challenges. Registrants will learn the indicators for making appropriate referrals and connecting participants to external community and clinical resources. All registrants will receive access to a printable guide outlining the key referral indicators and potential referral options. 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, registrants will be able to:

  • Know where to access up-to-date evidence-based guidelines and information about chest/breastfeeding to share with participants
  • Share with participants the key benefits of chest/breastfeeding for both the lactating parent and their infant
  • Share with participants what feeding patterns to expect from their healthy newborn and what responsive feeding is
  • Recognize key indicators for early feeding challenges and the need to refer to external professionals
Facilitator

Hayley Bentley is a Registered Nurse with a background in working with infants, children, and families since she graduated from Thompson Rivers University in 2015. Hayley has grown up on the unceded territory of the Secwepemc where she is grateful to work, play and raise her own family.

As a Registered Nurse and mother of 5, Hayley recognizes the importance of building a strong supportive network for pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond. Hayley is dedicated to providing families with evidence-based information and passionate about increasing the self-efficacy of perinatal people to make informed decisions. With many years experience as a public health nurse, Hayley has demonstrated skills in building strong therapeutic relationships, which support each individual’s and families' unique needs. Hayley is committed to creating a safe and positive learning environment that fosters growth and confidence. Hayley recognizes that everyone has a unique experience with pregnancy, postpartum, and/or the early parenting stages. Hayley’s passion for perinatal education come from her own personal birth experiences and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to support HUB participants.

Outside of her role at The Pregnancy HUB, Hayley enjoys shuttling her kids back and forth to activities, spending time outdoors, watching her children play sports and running.

Tickets are transferable to another individual, please email admin@bcapop.ca for any name substitutions. Registration is not complete until payment is received and this event is not being recorded.
