Are you looking for an opportunity to make a lifelong difference in the health of your community? A well-informed, client-centered supporter has the potential to influence the initiation, exclusivity and duration of chest/breastfeeding. Acquire practical skills to share with families on their chest/breastfeeding journey where learning and practice build confidence.

  • Set the scene for success – key prenatal information and preparation
  •  Starting strong – early initiation of chest/breastfeeding, skin-to-skin care and hand expression
  • Support self-efficacy – effective positioning, latching and thriving
  • Staying out of trouble - early challenges, feeding difficulties, how to manage low and abundant supply

Participants must attend online/live (classes will not be recorded). Only participants with full attendance will receive a Certificate of Completion for 10.75 hours of education.

Registration is limited to 30 people.

Professionals and helping peers who support pregnant, postpartum & newly parenting people.

Facilitated byMarianne BrophyIBCLC

 Marianne Brophy is a lactation consultant (IBCLC, 1990) working with breastfeeding families, peer supporters, doulas, and health care professionals. She has a private practice and facilitates a busy family resource centre-based breastfeeding and postpartum group. She is the recipient of the 2017 Catalyst of Change Award from the BC Association of Family Resource Programs.

She is a part-time instructor in the UBC Faculty of Medicine Midwifery Program. She is co-author of Breastfeeding: Making a Difference Courses for Health Professionals and “train the trainer” courses for clinical educators in Canada. She taught the breastfeeding component for the BC Aboriginal Doula Pilot Program.

As a Baby-Friendly Initiative Consultant and Lead Assessor, Marianne supports systems level transformation and the implementation of evidence-based best practice. She leads hospital and community health facility Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accreditation teams nationally, and is a past chair of the board of the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada (BCC) and representative to the WHO/UNICEF Network for Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) Coordinators in Industrialized Countries.

Marianne’s passion is providing accessible information to enhance confidence and self- efficacy in breastfeeding women and their care providers, thus promoting optimal breastfeeding and health outcomes for all families.
